Ed Perron is co-leader of the law firm’s Japan practice and a partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. Mr. Perron also serves as Lead Director of the law firm’s board and as Chair of the law firm’s International Strategy Committee. He is located in the Los Angeles office. He practices corporate law, primarily with respect to matters involving mergers and acquisitions or product distribution.

Mr. Perron served as outside general counsel to more than twenty direct and indirect subsidiaries of Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. in the United States and Japan from 1987 until the completion of Sanyo’s acquisition by Panasonic Corporation in April 2011. During his career, he has advised a number of other Japanese corporations, including Mitsubishi Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Cool Japan Fund, Inc., Imagica Robot Holdings, Inc., Hitachi Transport Systems, Ltd., Zensho Holdings Co., Ltd., Kyocera Communications, Inc., Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd., Isuzu Motors Limited, Suntory Limited, Tokai Corporation and Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc., and their subsidiaries and affiliates, with respect to the variety of legal issues that arise in the context of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic investments and product distribution in the United States. Mr. Perron also advises clients Shapco Inc., Hampson Industries PLC, Textron, Inc., Bell Helicopter, Cessna Aircraft Company, Xerox Corporation, DirecTV, Inc., In-N-Out Burger Corporation, Tesco PLC, Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Markets, Inc., The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, the Los Angeles SPCA, and ZF Trading North America LLC.

Civic Engagement
After having served for more than twenty-five years as General Counsel to and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Japan America Society of Southern California, Mr. Perron was elected Chairman of the Society for 2007-2009. He currently serves on the Society’s Board of Directors and Finance Committee and chairs its Endowment Committee. In the past, he has served on the Franchise Legislation Committee of the California State Bar Association, on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, on the Board of Directors and Executive Advisory Committee of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, on the Executive Advisory Board of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center and on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation. He is a member of the Japan Business Association of Southern California and the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. Mr. Perron was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oakwood School in North Hollywood, California, from 2009-2012, and has served on the School's Executive Committee, Executive Compensation Committee, Accreditation Committee, Audit Committee, Finance Committee, Committee on Trustees, Committee on Strategic Priorities and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and has chaired the School's Annual Fund Campaign. He continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus on the Oakwood Board of Trustees and Executive Committee.

Firm Management
Mr. Perron is currently a member of Pillsbury’s 13-member Board that is responsible for management of the firm. He previously served on the firm’s Managing Board from 2001-2006 and on the Executive Committees of predecessor law firms Lillick & McHose and Pillsbury Madison & Sutro. In addition, Mr. Perron was Chairman of the Partner Compensation Committee from 2007-2009. Previously, he served as Vice Chairman of that Committee in 1996, as Chairman of the Committee in 1997 and 1998, as a member of the Committee in 2001-2003 and 2005-2006 and as Co-Chairman of the Committee in 2004. He also served as Chairman of the Partner Compensation System Review Committee in 1996 and as a member of that Committee in 1999 and again in 2006-2014. In the past, Mr. Perron has been the firm’s Los Angeles Office Managing Partner, Chairman of the Los Angeles Office Management Committee and Chairman of the Los Angeles Office business practice group.

Writing & Speaking
Mr. Perron is the co-author with the late David L. Hayutin (Partner, Pillsbury) of Distributing Foreign Products in the United States, published by Juris Publishing, Inc. He has participated as a speaker at seminars on loan documentation before the Institute for Financial Affairs, Inc., Tokyo, Japan; on doing business in the United States before The Japanese Institute of International Business Law, Inc., Tokyo, Japan; on U.S. export regulations sponsored by Price Waterhouse; on antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions before the Technology Transfer Institute; and on electronic document retention and discovery in conjunction with Anacomp, Inc. He has lectured frequently on various aspects of antitrust and corporate compliance to client audiences comprised of Japanese, American and European sales and management executives.
