Pillsbury’s Houston office is staffed by more than 20 seasoned lawyers with strong ties to the Texas and Gulf Coast business and legal communities. Our attorneys have been cited in the well-regarded Chambers rankings as top practitioners in such areas as environmental law, energy and natural resources, insurance litigation and project finance.

The Houston office draws on Pillsbury’s domestic and international resources to provide legal counsel to clients with major offices or headquarters in Texas, including Chevron, Dynegy, Valero Energy, Suez Energy North America, AT&T and Duke Energy. The team brings the same level of client service to engagements with startups and growing middle-market firms.

The core practice areas of the Houston office include:

Energy
Pillsbury is one of the leading law firms serving all sectors of the energy industry. Our energy industry clients include oil and gas producers, transporters, distributors and managers; electric and gas utilities; utility holding companies and affiliates; independent power producers and transmission companies; renewable energy producers; and underwriters, lenders and investors for all of those companies.

Our wide-ranging experience includes royalty issues, geophysical trespass, implied covenant, gas balancing, transportation, areas of mutual interest and usurpation of opportunities, accounting controversies, joint operating agreements, and PMPA disputes.

We bring our legal and technical knowledge to energy transactions ranging from electricity restructuring to negotiating and administering overseas energy development projects.

Environmental Law
Members of the Houston environmental team have decades of experience working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and its predecessor agencies. The team is an important part of Pillsbury’s national environmental law practice, which is one of the largest in the country. Along the Gulf Coast, across the U.S. and around the world, our attorneys handle all aspects of environmental compliance, litigation and transactional work.

Finance and Banking
The Houston Finance and Banking practice focuses on general commercial lending, structured transactions, and oil and gas financing. The Houston group also works on project development and financing in a variety of domestic and international transactions, such as those involving energy infrastructure.

Insurance
Pillsbury’s Houston office includes members of the firm’s Insurance Recovery & Advisory practice, which represents corporate policyholders in recovering insurance proceeds from their insurers as well as advising those clients on insurance and risk management issues from a legal standpoint. The team includes a past Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and has worked on the full spectrum of insurance coverage disputes, including major disasters, complex liability issues and cutting edge coverages such as cybersecurity.

Litigation and Appeals
Our litigation attorneys work closely with other practice areas to understand a client’s business and the impact of potential litigation. We have wide-ranging experience in all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal. While we work with clients to avoid unnecessary litigation, we also have the experience needed to secure favorable outcomes in even the most hostile trial venues.

Real Estate
Pillsbury’s Houston Real Estate practice advises a large roster of national clientele on purchase and sale matters, mortgage lending, leasing and entity formations. We collaborate with our colleagues throughout the firm on related bankruptcy, environmental and venture capital matters.

Community Leadership
Our professionals are passionate about bettering the community where we live and work. In Houston, we are involved in a wide range of service initiatives, including:

  • Leadership support for Comp-U-Dopt, which provides refurbished computers and technology education to children in Houston's underserved communities, as well as Special Olympics Texas, Young Audiences of Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Kiwanis Club of Houston.
